Elderberry

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra), which has long been used to treat infections, has also been researched for its effects on immune

health. In test-tube studies, elderberry extract demonstrates potent antibacterial and antiviral potential against bacterial pathogens responsibl for upper respiratory tract infections and strains of influenza virus. What’s more,

it has been shown to enhance immune system response and may help shorten the duration and severity of colds, as well as reduce symptoms related to viral infections. A review of 4 randomized control studies in 180 people found that elderberry supplements significantly reduced upper respiratory symptoms caused by viral infections.

SUMMARY: Taking elderberry supplements can reduce upper respiratory symptoms caused by viral infections, immune health and help alleviate flu symptoms.

Selenium

Selenium Boosts your immune system. Your immune system keeps your body healthy by identifying and fighting off potential threats. These include bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

Selenium plays an important role in the health of your immune system. This antioxidant helps lower oxidative stress in your body, which reduces inflammation and enhances immunity.

Studies have demonstrated that increased blood levels of selenium are associated with enhanced immune response. Studies have also associated deficiency with an increased risk of death and disease progression in people with HIV, while supplements have been shown to lead to fewer hospitalizations and an improvement in symptoms for these patients.

Additionally, selenium supplements may help strengthen the immune system in people with influenza, tuberculosis, and hepatitis C.

SUMMARY:  Selenium is crucial for the health and proper functioning of your immune system. Higher levels of selenium may help boost the immune systems of people with HIV, influenza, tuberculosis, and hepatitis C.

Our Immune Defense™ product contains 100 Mcg of Selenium.

Zinc

Zinc is a mineral that’s commonly added to supplements and other healthcare products like lozenges that are meant to boost your immune system. This is because zinc is essential for immune system

function. Zinc is needed for immune cell development and communication and plays an important role in inflammatory response. A deficiency in this nutrient significantly affects your immune system’s ability to

function properly, resulting in an increased risk of infection and disease, including pneumonia. Zinc deficiency affects around 2 billion people worldwide and is very common in older adults. In fact, up to 30% of older adults are considered deficient in this nutrient.

Numerous studies reveal that zinc supplements may protect against respiratory tract infections like the common cold. What’s more, supplementing with zinc may be beneficial for those who are already sick. In a 2019 study in 64 hospitalized children with acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRIs), taking 30 mg of zinc per day decreased the total duration of infection and the duration of the hospital stay by an average of 2 days, compared with a placebo group.

Supplemental zinc may also help reduce the duration of the common cold. Taking zinc long-term is typically safe for healthy adults, as long as the daily dose is under the set upper limit of 40 mg of elemental zinc. Excessive doses may interfere with copper absorption, which could increase your infection risk.

SUMMARY: Zinc is essential for cell growth and division, immune function, enzyme reactions, DNA synthesis, and protein production. Supplementing with zinc can help protect against respiratory tract infections and reduce the duration of these infections. Research shows that zinc has numerous health benefits.

Our Immune Defense™ product contains 20 Mg of Zinc.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble nutrient essential to the health and functioning of your immune system. Vitamin D is essential for immune function. Our Immune Defense™ contains 2000 IU of Vitamin D. Vitamin D enhances

the pathogen fighting effects of monocytes and macrophages —white blood cells that are important parts of your immune defense — and decreases inflammation, which helps promote immune response. Many people are deficient in this important vitamin, which may negatively affect immune function. In fact, low vitamin D levels are associated with an increased risk of upper respiratory tract infections, including influenza and allergic asthma.

Some studies show that supplementing with vitamin D can improve immune response. In fact, recent research suggests that taking this vitamin may protect against respiratory tract infections. In a 2019 review of randomized control studies in 11,321 people, supplementing with vitamin D significantly decreased the risk of respiratory infections in people deficient in this vitamin and lowered infection risk in those with adequate vitamin D levels. This suggests an overall protective effect. Other studies note that vitamin D supplements can improve response to antiviral treatments in people with certain infections, including hepatitis C and HIV.

Depending on blood levels, anywhere between 1,000 and 4,000 IU of supplemental vitamin D per day is sufficient for most people, though those with more serious deficiencies often require much higher doses.

SUMMARY: Vitamin D is essential for immune function. Healthy levels of this vitamin may help lower your risk of respiratory infections.

Our Immune Defense™ product contains 2000 IU of Vitamin D.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is perhaps the most popular supplement taken to protect against infection due to its important role in immune health. This vitamin supports the function of various immune cells and enhances their  ability to protect against infection.

It’s also necessary for cellular death, which helps keep your immune system healthy by clearing out old cells and replacing them with new ones. Vitamin C also functions as a powerful antioxidant, protecting against damage induced by oxidative stress, which occurs with the accumulation of reactive molecules known as free radicals.

Oxidative stress can negatively affect immune health and is linked to numerous diseases. Supplementing with vitamin C has been shown to reduce the duration and severity of upper respiratory tract infections, including the. A large review of 29 studies in 11,306 people demonstrated that regularly supplementing with vitamin C at an average dose of 1–2 grams per day reduced the duration of colds by 8% in adults and 14% in children. Interestingly, the review also demonstrated that regularly taking vitamin C supplements reduced common cold occurrence in individuals under high physical stress, including marathon runners and soldiers, by up to 50%.

Additionally, high-dose intravenous vitamin C treatment has been shown to significantly improve symptoms in people with severe infections, including sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) resulting

from viral infections. These results confirm that vitamin C supplements may significantly affect immune health, especially in those who don’t get enough of the vitamin through their diet. The upper limit for vitamin C is 2,000 mg. Supplemental daily doses typically range between 250 and 1,000 mg.

SUMMARY: Vitamin C is vital for immune health. Supplementing with this nutrient may reduce the duration and severity of upper respiratory tract infections, including the common cold. One of the main reasons people take vitamin C supplements is to boost their immunity, as vitamin C is involved in many parts of the immune system. First, vitamin C helps encourage the production of white blood cells known as lymphocytes and phagocytes, which help protect the body against infection.

Garlic Organic

Garlic supplements are known to boost the function of the immune system. For thousands of years, garlic was believed to have medicinal properties. Science has now confirmed it now

11 Proven Health Benefits of Garlic.

"Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food." Those are famous words from the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, often called the father of Western medicine. He actually used to prescribe garlic to treat

a variety of medical conditions. Modern science has recently confirmed many of these beneficial health effects. Here are 11 health benefits of garlic that are supported by human research.

1. Garlic Contains Compounds With Potent Medicinal Properties

Share on Pinterest Garlic is a plant in the Allium (onion) family.

It is closely related to onions, shallots and leeks. Each segment of a garlic bulb is called a clove. There are about 10–20 cloves in a single bulb, give or take.

Garlic grows in many parts of the world and is a popular ingredient in cooking due to its strong smell and delicious taste. However,

throughout ancient history, the main use of garlic was for its health and medicinal properties. Its use was well documented by many major civilizations, including the Egyptians,  abylonians, Greeks,

Romans and Chinese. Scientists now know that most of its health benefits are caused by sulfur compounds formed when a garlic clove is chopped, crushed or chewed. Perhaps the most famous of those is known as allicin. However, allicin is an unstable compound that is only briefly present in fresh garlic after it’s been cut or crushed. Other compounds that may play a role in garlic’s health benefits include diallyl disulfide and s-allyl cysteine. The sulfur compounds from garlic enter the body from the digestive tract and travel all over the body, where it exerts its potent biological effects.

SUMMARY: Garlic is a plant in the onion family that’s grown for its distinctive taste and health benefits. It contains sulfur compounds, which are believed to bring some of the health benefits.

Lemons

Everyone knows that lemons and other citrus fruits are an excellent

source of vitamin C, among many other nutrients. In recent years, researchers around the world have studied the effects of vitaminC and its important and multi functional role in human health.

One area where it is known to play an enormous role is in the immune system. Lemons and zinc: A study by researchers in Switzerland in 2006 and published in the Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism looked at the role of both vitamin C and zinc in boosting the immune system, and whether that effect could apply to patients with specific conditions, such as respiratory tract infections, and the common cold, among others. It is known that the levels of vitamin C in the blood serum drop when the body is under physical or mental stress, or when it is under attack by an infection. That is likely because the body’s immune system is using more of it when it is under attack by infection.

• Vitamin C improves the function of what are called natural killer cells, which help to eliminate infection, and aid in antimicrobial activity;

• It helps the body’s own helper cells such as lymphocytes;

• It helps the body’s cells maintain their integrity, and resist oxidative damage.

Lemon also acts on specific elements of the body’s immune response, so the two were studied together. Both nutrients are crucial to maintaining good health.

• They help the body resist infectious diseases;

• They reduce the severity of an episode of infection;

• They reduce the length of infection.

Keeping you healthy: The study looked at the results of what it called a “large number” of trials where patients were given up to 1g of vitamin C and up to 30mg of zinc. What they found was significant.

• Intake of vitamin C and zinc improved symptoms;

• It was also associated with shortened time span of the infection, disease or condition.

This response was associated with a variety of conditions, including:

• Respiratory infections;

• The common cold;

• Pneumonia;

• Malaria;

• Diarrhea infections in children.

What does it all mean? Eating lemons – which contain about 60mcg of zinc per 100g – and other citrus fruits helps to boost your immune system and keep you healthy, and an extra boost will help when you are battling a cold or other infection.
